Son of a Glitch: Error Could Derail Tax Deal

Tax Deal Possibly Endangered by Error in Legislation. President Obama on Wednesday urged lawmakers to reach a compromise on tax extenders but a glitch in the bill caused some senators to scramble for a correction without endangering its outcome. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., came to the Senate floor Wednesday to announce a "mistake" in the legislation. She said a program to extend low income housing tax credits for people who lost homes during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita was left out of the bill even though it was a deal that all sides approved. Landrieu said the money is needed for 2 more years to complete the projects and its inclusion was blessed by the White House and the entire Louisiana delegation of nine lawmakers, two Democrats and seven Republicans. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., followed to say that she was right.

United Nations Lifts Iraq Nuclear Weapons Sanctions

The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday lifted sanctions that prohibited Iraq from pursuing a civilian nuclear program, in a symbolic step to restore the country to the international standing it held before Saddam Hussein's 1990 invasion of Kuwait. "This is a big announcement. A new day for Iraq," a State Department official told FoxNews.com. Iraq's constitution bars the country from acquiring weapons of mass destruction and the country is a party to the main nuclear, chemical, biological and missile treaties. The resolution, adopted unanimously, also lifted sanctions that barred Iraq from acquiring nuclear, chemical or biological weapons and long-range missiles. "What this basically is a recognition by the international community of the efforts and progress that has been made in Iraq up to this point to rejoin the international community and their commitment to living within the guidelines of the international community," the official said.

Congress' Job Approval Rating Worst in Gallup History

Americans' assessment of Congress has hit a new low, with 13% saying they approve of the way Congress is handling its job. The 83% disapproval rating is also the worst Gallup has measured in more than 30 years of tracking congressional job performance.

'Stuxnet virus set back Iran’s nuclear program by 2 years'

The Stuxnet virus, which has attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities and which Israel is suspected of creating, has set back the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program by two years, a top German computer consultant who was one of the first experts to analyze the program’s code told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday. “It will take two years for Iran to get back on track,” Langer said in a telephone interview from his office in Hamburg, Germany. “This was nearly as effective as a military strike, but even better since there are no fatalities and no full-blown war. From a military perspective, this was a huge success.”

Reid threatens to keep Congress into next year

Forget about going quietly into the night. Senate Democrats on Tuesday unveiled a broad agenda for an end-of-session sprint that, in other years, could be a whole year's worth of activity — ranging from an arms-reduction treaty with Russia to a major immigration bill to overturning the ban on gay troops. And that's not to mention the nearly 2,000-page, $1.1 trillion massive spending bill Senate Democrats said they'll try to push through. The bill contains hundreds of pork-barrel spending projects and new rules governing everything from airport baggage to detainees at the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. "We're not through. Congress ends on Jan. 4," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat.

Senate Dems unveil $1.1T spending bill

Senate Democrats have filed a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that would fund the government through fiscal year 2011, according to Senate GOP sources. The 1,924-page bill includes funding to implement the sweeping healthcare reform bill Congress passed earlier this year as well as additional funds for Internal Revenue Service agents, according to a senior GOP aide familiar with the legislation.

Attacks From Right Take Toll on Obama's Tax Plan

A growing chorus of conservative criticism is prompting some House members to rethink the $850 billion package of tax cuts and extended jobless benefits that President Barack Obama negotiated with top Republicans in Congress. The attacks are unlikely to derail the measure, which gets a final vote Wednesday in the Senate, to be followed by a debate and vote in the House. But they underscore the difficulty of building centrist coalitions after an election in which tea party conservatives ousted many Democrats and some veteran Republicans who were seen as too willing to compromise with opponents.

Battle Over Obamacare Repeal is Essentially a Debate About Liberty

Heritage Foundation Morning Bell, another victory on the road to repeal. Morning Bell. They say Obamacare will be repealed now. It is only a question of when. Here's President Obama yesterday afternoon again in Tampa, WFLA-TV Eyeball News. Question: "When it comes to the health care decision, that parts of it are unconstitutional, what does that do? Your opinion on health care? What's your reaction to the judge's ruling?"

Obama: Unemployment Benefits are "Biggest Boost" to Economy

This is from ABC News, a poll. It's by Gary Langer, who I think is their polling guy. "With decisive votes in Congress pending, Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll broadly support the tax-and-benefits deal forged by President Obama and Republican leaders of Congress -- the deficit be damned." That's right. You know how long ABC News and the Washington Post have obsessed over the national debt. Oh, yeah! These are some of the most famous deficit hawks we have: ABC News and the Washington Post. You remember all the editorials and stories they did condemning the deficit all during the Obamacare debate.

Government Greed is Not Good

They're trying to control what your kids eat now because that can't be left to you. You're too big an idiot. You know, the guy has a good point, which candidates hid their labels in the last election? Do we know of any that did? We know the media in any story of corruption or crime that involves a Democrat, you'll never find out in the story that they're a Democrat. But what candidate hid their labels during the last campaign, and why? I'm gonna tell you what this is. See, it's easy for me 'cause I know -- not personally, but I may as well -- I know some of the people on the right joining this group. I know some of the people on the right, well, formerly on the right who are championing this group and I know their mind-set and I know that they're ticked off. They basically have been rendered irrelevant in the conservative movement because these are the people who have been spouting the end of Reaganism, the Reagan era is over, we gotta move beyond that.
