Tax Cut Defeat is Progress, Could Lead to START Ratification
All of the jousting, jostling, and jockeying for position on the Bush-era tax cuts, set to expire by year's end, has reached a fevered pitch in the Senate, with one Democratic senator even likening the ongoing struggle with Republicans to "negotiating with terrorists." All of this will reach a climax on Saturday, when members will vote on two Democratic proposals that would essentially allow Bush-era tax cuts to expire for wealthier Americans.
One senior Senate Democratic leadership aide told Fox Friday, "We have to do this to show everyone where we stand. It gets the more liberal members off the cliff's edge, then we can open the door to a compromise. Most Democrats hate the idea of giving in, but it's what we have to do to give the middle class what it needs."

McCain: 264,600 may quit military
As the commanders of the Army, Air Force and Marines cautioned the U.S. Senate against abruptly repealing the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, critics are also warning that accepting open homosexuality and pro-homosexual "reprogramming" could drive massive numbers of troops out of the service.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., pointed out during the first day of the Senate Armed Services Committee hearings on Thursday that according to a survey conducted for the Pentagon, repealing DADT could create an "alarming" troop retention problem at a time when the military is already shorthanded.

Guess who blasts 'Zionists' in control of America
Helen Thomas, the former "dean" of the White House Press Corps who lost her position over a string of anti-Semitic comments, has spoken out again, this time claiming Hollywood, the White House, Wall Street and other American institutions are "owned by the Zionists" with an anti-Arab agenda.
In a speech to the Arab Detroit workshop on anti-Arab bias at the Byblos Banquet Center in Dearborn, Mich., yesterday, Thomas addressed "the whole question of money involved in politics."
"We are owned by propagandists against the Arabs. There's no question about that," Thomas said, according to a Detroit Free Press report. "Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion. They put their money where there mouth is. …We're being pushed into a wrong direction in every way."

Think Piece: Americans Used to Overcome Hardships on Their Own
I have a little think piece for you. You know, ladies and gentlemen, back in the old days, the fifties when I was growing up, my mother was happy to see my brother and I walk out of the house in the morning and not come back 'til afternoon -- and she wasn't worried about us running into a purse snatcher or a mugger or rapist or any of that. I know that's not the case today. But if we fell off the bike... I remember my mother sent me to the Snack and Pack, which is our version of the 7-Eleven. Snack and Pack? That wasn't the name of it. Pack and Snack? Whatever it was it was about six blocks away on a bicycle.

The New Normal: Obamaville 2010, Where We Pay People Not to Work
The unemployment number, 9.8%. Now, this is very timely. See, I can't help but look at this stuff as a cynic. Nine-point-eight percent is going to facilitate the discussion of extending unemployment benefits. It is also gonna give Obama and whoever else needs it cover to go along with the idea of temporarily extending the Bush tax rates, that 9.8%. Who would have ever thought the number woulda gone up after the election, I ask cynically. He-he-he-he-he-he-he. It went up, by the way, we added 39,000 jobs. Now, I want you to stop and think of that. We've had people try to tell us this week the economy is starting to boom, starting to recover. In the United States of America we added 39,000 jobs. That is such a small number that it is impossible to represent statistically. That's less than one-tenth of one millionth of 1%. Thirty-nine thousand jobs in the United States. That's so small I don't even know how you calculate. That's a rounding error.

Certifiably Insane Congressman Evokes El Rushbo on House Floor
Certifiably insane Alan Grayson, Democrat congressman from Florida who was defeated in November went to the floor of the House yesterday to speak out against extending the Bush tax rates. He led off by having a big picture of me on an easel. The picture was of me out at Pebble Beach in the golf tournament, big smile on my face with a giant stogie coming out of my mouth. And then after me he did Beck and Hannity and he went on down the list. And here's what he said leading off this discussion about me.

Dems Applaud Censured Rangel
They censured Charlie Rangel yesterday. Part of censure is reading all the charges, all the transgressions. Pelosi does this after six o'clock. She didn't even read the entire list. This is the first censure in 30 years, although I should say that Randall "Duke" Cunningham is in jail for doing essentially that which Rangel did. The only difference is that Duke Cunningham, a war hero, is a Republican -- and unlike Rangel, Duke Cunningham didn't constantly run around talking about and reminding everybody that he was a war hero.

Young Grizzly: Bristol Palin Blasts Olbermann for ‘Worst’ Person Label
Keith Olbermann gets owned by Palin.
Olbermann gets owned by Bristol Palin after he bravely named the daughter of a former VP candidate the “Worst Person in the World” for being a spokesperson for a pro-abstinence organization. His argument was so weak it made Larry King look like Pol Pot - and Bristol Palin knocked that softball out of the park.

Alan Grayson is a sore, sore loser
Alan Grayson - the loudmouthed Congressman (soon to be former Congressman) took to the House floor and demonstrated why he ended up being a one termer. In a pathetic, it'd-be-embarrassing-if-a-5-year-old-made-this-case argument, Grayson tried to explain the evils of extending the Bush tax cuts. What came out was a pathetic, sour grapes sounding anti-wealth rant - which is especially funny because Grayson is worth an estimated $31 million dollars.
