Why Isn’t Sarah Palin Selling More Clothes?

Regardless of what you think about Sarah Palin’s politics, it’s a little difficult to get around the fact that the woman is, at this point, an institution unto herself. She’s written a New York Times Bestseller, her reality show on TLC sometimes gets good ratings, and hardly a day goes by when she doesn’t generate a handful of headlines across multiple mediums. Like it or not, the woman has fans. So why isn’t she inspiring the same kind of apparel sales as, say, Michelle Obama or Kate Middleton? We refuse to believe that the answer to that question is that conservative women just don’t like fashion.

Tax Cut Bill Loaded With Deals for Lobbyists, Lawmakers

In the spirit of the holiday season, President Obama's tax-cut deal with Republicans is becoming a Christmas tree tinseled with gifts for lobbyists and lawmakers. But that hardly stopped the squabbling on Friday, with Bill Clinton even back at the White House pleading the president's case. While Republicans sat back quietly, mostly pleased, Democrats and other liberals were going at each other ever so publicly. As Clinton lectured on Obama's behalf, Vermont independent Bernie Sanders castigated the agreement for the TV cameras in the mostly empty Senate chamber.

It's Time to Go on Offense, GOP

Here's my point. You've known this for years. You've known that Democrats believe that the wealth tax ought to be 50% and that once somebody dies they're dead and that their heirs shouldn't get it, that it ought to be a giant transfer of income and redistribution, put the money back into so-called circulation. But why all of a sudden now it sounds like you've reached a tipping point. If I'm right, why all of a sudden now is this getting to you the way it is?

Warning: UK Riots Come Our Way

Let me warn you of something because all that's coming here, all of that is headed our way. A couple of weeks ago when I saw the first protests, as you know if you were here, it ruined the day. I was so ticked off. I was so cynical and sarcastic all day. I was calling 'em names. You know, these freeloader rock 'n' roller FM types, let 'em pay for it themselves. I got so fed up with the notion that somebody ought to be paying for everybody else. Whatever these kids want, somebody else ought to be paying for it, but that's what their system has taught them. Hello, socialism, and now they happen to be unfortunate enough to be alive at a point where the system's bankrupt. By the accident of their birth these kids are learning reality.

A Rebuttal to Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is filibustering the tax deal. As we speak he's sitting there, he launched his filibuster, he's actually filibustering. He's been talking since 10:30 this morning, 10:25, something like that. And I don't know how long he's gonna go but imagine Obama has actually done some unity here, Me and Bernie Sanders. Different reasons, but we both oppose the bill.

Democrats are Angry... and Dumb

Now, the worst thing, if you can say there is a worst thing, but clearly a bad thing about the deal in the long run and this is gonna be true for every deal for the next two years is because Obama has a bully pulpit and the media will be able to take credit for what works in this compromise and blame Republicans for anything that doesn't work. And believe me, Obama's counting on that, and that's why he wants to tie all of this to his reelection. He's gonna be able to take credit for what works, blame Republicans for anything that doesn't work, and use that bully pulpit that the media will amplify and he'll be able to do it with every deal he strikes. Every deal he makes he will be able to make that point.

Libs Target Supply-Side Economics

Remember, yesterday I made a point that there's no economic stimulus tied to the extension of these tax rates. I pointed out that Obama can say after two years, "Hey, we did supply-side, and it didn't work. We tried Reaganomics. We tried to give the rich a tax break, and we had the tax rates reduction, and we had all this and it didn't work. Tax cuts don't work." And he can forever bury the whole notion of supply-side working in two years. And I said this is part of the strategery here. We have an audio montage of Democrats making this point.

Tax Deal Becomes New Porkulus

Charles Krauthammer has a column on this deal today, on the tax deal, and it essentially says many of the things that we've been pointing out here all week about this deal regarding whether or not this is a stimulus, how Obama keeps calling it a stimulus. We've been asking the question, "Where is the stimulus in this bill?" There isn't any. There's no stimulus in keeping tax rates the same. But looked at from Obama's perspective, what does he consider stimulus? Spending. The Porkulus bill, $787 billion, $800 billion, that was stimulus. Never mind that it hasn't worked. Well, this thing has a lot of new spending in it. Now they're adding ethanol subsidies and who knows what else is being tacked on that we don't know about.

Politics:

I Hope Obama's Tax Deal Fails

If you don't know anything else about the tax deal, just listen to this. "Senators on opposite sides of the battle over ethanol subsidies said Thursday an extension of key ethanol tax credits appears to be a part of the emerging Capitol Hill deal on the Bush-era tax cuts. Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), who supports the corn-based fuel, told reporters that an extension of the credit for blending ethanol into gasoline is included. 'I believe it will be in there...based on some discussions.'" Chuck Grassley says, yep, it's gonna be in there. Tom Harkin says, yep, it's gonna be in there. This is Washington as we've always known it. This is nothing more than pork. Both senators, both sides of the aisle throwing in a subsidy here, this is more pork spending. This is not representative of anybody having heard the results of the election or not getting the point of the election, and what's being lost in all this, this word "stimulus."
