President Obama's Scorecard on Promises Kept, Broken

Some Democrats are angry over President Obama's compromise on the Bush-era tax cuts and the president is suggesting they should cool down and take a closer look at the promises he's kept as commander-in-chief, and even since the campaign trail. The president called out Democrats directly at a press conference Tuesday, saying they should maybe take count. "[I] don't think there's a single Democrat out there who, if they looked at where we started when I came into office and look at where we are now, would say that somehow we have not moved in the direction that I promised. "Take a tally. Look at what I promised during the campaign. There's not a single thing that I've said that I would do that I have not either done or tried to do. And if I haven't gotten it done yet, I'm still trying to do it," Obama said.

Angry Democrats Could Punt on Tax Cuts Deal

President Barack Obama struggled Tuesday to prevent wholesale defections by fellow Democrats that could sink the tax deal he worked out with Republicans -- angry opposition that could subject millions of Americans to a big holiday-season tax increase. Many GOP lawmakers seemed ready to embrace the Obama-GOP compromise and declare victory. The question was whether enough Democrats would join them in support, especially in the House, where liberal resentment of the president's concessions on tax breaks for the wealthiest runs strong.

The Republicans Have More Power Than They're Willing to Use Now

I'm gradually weaving my way into my opinion, yeah, but before I get to the final pronouncement, I'm telling you and giving my thought process on all this. Gotta know what it is. I'm just not gonna say, "I like it, and now back to the phones." I'm not gonna say, "I don't like it, and now back to the phones." I'm gonna tell you how I've arrived at it, and I still haven't told you the final like it or don't like it. But I will tell you that a lot of this is not to his benefit. Getting this extension of unemployment... I hate... I hate the fact that it's not paid for. This election was about spending. I hate the fact that it's 13 months. We coulda hung in there for six. We don't need... Look, folks, for those of you who hate this, there are some realities. One reality is there are three weeks left in the Christmas news cycle, okay? And not once in those three weeks can they do a story on the Republicans being Scrooge.

Bam's Sneering Press Conference

I was just listening to a little bit of Obama at his press conference, folks. We have an angry man lying his butt off about Republican positions. Basically that's what we got going on. He just said that he had to do this 'cause come January the middle class is gonna get tax relief. Now, they're not gonna get income tax relief, and that's what he's trying to say. He's trying to position this as a tax cut for the middle class on the Reagan tax rates. The only people getting a tax cut here will be the one year, two-year cut on payroll taxes. It's one year. But everything else is either staying the same or going up.

El Rushbo's Take on the Tax Deal: Republicans Could've Done Better

Michele Bachmann is organizing opposition to the deal and is basically fighting the establishment once again. Her primary argument is that the payments to people who don't work and don't pay taxes are just staggering. There is a continuing redistribution of wealth that's taking place. Now, in one sense, Obama has experienced his first defeat here in his effort to make the country worse off. He wanted a tax increase, and he has failed to get that. Now, we've been taking it in the shorts for two years from this guy, and that has been stopped in this deal. And it happened in the lame duck. Republicans do not run the House; they don't run the Senate; they don't run the White House, so in that limited context it's a good deal. Also, Obama's left is just wildly opposed to this. They are just beside themselves. They think he has totally caved because the rich are not going to experience a tax increase.

The bitter clingers. He's never convinced them of that. Media Racists Attack Obama

The votes clearly are there. If Obama can't get the votes for ending the current tax rates for the wealthiest Americans, it's because the Democrats remember the election outcome. I cannot emphasize this enough. We are still in the lame duck here. The Democrats have a 100-seat majority in the House of Representatives. Obama just said the votes were not there to give him what he wanted, in a 100-seat majority, House of Representatives. Stop and think of that. If that's even true. But how do you like Jake Tapper's lingo, Obama was going to let LeBron James keep X, but now Obama's only going to let LeBron James keep Y. What is this "Obama letting" stuff? "Government is going to let." See, that furthers this notion that all money is Washington's and that whatever any of us end up with is what that allow us to have or to keep. It's a big bugaboo of mine.

The Tax Deal: What Do You Think?

Man, oh, man, oh, man, ladies and gentlemen, the left, what a bunch of racists! I mean they're all over MSNBC. They are all over the New York Times, the Washington Post. I have never seen such a collection of racists, all these liberals criticizing Obama on this compromise on the tax bill. Well, every bit of criticism of Obama's always been said to be racist, hasn't it? What a bunch of just undisguised racism we are seeing in America today. Normally they camouflage their racism pretty well, but I mean they can't, they're so upset. It's there for one and all to see.

Sharpton: Rush can say what he wants...except

The Reverend Al Sharpton is the latest in a long line of lefties to call for some form of the fairness doctrine - that must be what he's saying because he wants Rush Limbaugh off the air immediately because he might 'offend' someone. It's the kind of policy that would make Hugo Chavez proud - but it's also just a really stupid point. Glenn has the audio of yet another lefty who can't compete on the battlefield of ideas and resorts to silencing opponents.
