South Korea Trade Pact: More Important Than Ever
The economic case for the South Korea–U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) has been variously described as a “slam dunk,” a “pareto-optimal solution,” and “an easy ‘yes.’” However, aside from the economic arguments for KORUS, recent events in the Korean peninsula make approval of the agreement more important than ever.

Death Tax and Democracy
The fate of small, family-owned businesses hangs in the balance as Congress decides whether or not to finally put the crippling 55% death tax in a coffin. The toll the death tax takes on family-owned businesses has been clearly documented as has its infeasibility as a federal budgetary tool. But just as important as these concerns is the erosion of individual liberty that this tax presents.

Don’t Tread On Me! What it Means for Foreign Policy
The bold letters of the Gadsden Flag have become the slogan of America’s 21st century Tea Party movement and a symbol of the unique American spirit. Most resurgent patriots intuitively grasp the essence of American exceptionalism, but not all understand what it means for U.S. foreign policy.
The distinct yellow flag was designed by Christopher Gadsden who led the Sons of Liberty in South Carolina prior to the American Revolution.

2 million lose jobless benefits as holidays arrive
Extended unemployment benefits for nearly 2 million Americans begin to run out Wednesday, cutting off a steady stream of income and guaranteeing a dismal holiday season for people already struggling with bills they cannot pay.
Unless Congress changes its mind, benefits that had been extended up to 99 weeks will end this month.
That means Christmas is out of the question for Wayne Pittman, 46, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and his wife and 9-year-old son. The carpenter was working up to 80 hours a week at the beginning of the decade, but saw that gradually drop to 15 hours before it dried up completely. His last $297 check will go to necessities, not presents.

What Part of "Hell, No!" Did the Republicans Not Understand?
Obama has appointed Tim Geithner and the budget director Jack Lew to work with congressional Republicans and Democrats to come up with a new deal on taxes in the next couple of days. Now, imagine having the nation's taxes in the hands of a guy who couldn't even figure out TurboTax, that's our Treasury secretary Tim Geithner, the tax cheat. And that little twerp, I mean there's another one, he's in charge of dealing with Republicans and Democrats on the Bush tax cut extension controversy.

GOP to Pursue Full Repeal of Obamacare While Addressing Pre-Existing Conditions, Adult Children on Parents' Plans
House Republicans are looking to repeal the healthcare reform law and replace it with one of their own early next year without interrupting two popular parts the administration has already begun to implement. They include a mandate that bars discrimination of pre-existing conditions and a stipulation that allows young people to remain on their parents' insurance plans until age 26. Incoming Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Monday that they would do this by passing a GOP healthcare bill at the same time as repeal efforts are underway

AP: There Will Be No Christmas Without Unemployment Extension
Do you ever...? Folks, do you ever look around and see people getting older and you don't think it's happening to you, but you see it in everybody else? It's something that happens. It's just weird, and sometimes you see people acting older even when they don't look older. I don't feel a day older than when I started this program 23 years ago. Well, it's just weird. Anyway, here's this AP story: "If Congress lets unemployment benefits expire this week for the long-term unemployed, they won't be the only ones to feel the pain. The overall economy would suffer, too. Unemployment benefits help drive the economy..." You know what this is? This is a fax. This is a fax. It's either from Pelosi and the White House and AP just ran it.
